Dear President Obama & Secretary Kerry,

AIT and FDArefused to provide the following information of compensation for damage to human body caused by pet food, suspected bribery fraudto shield Mars Inc.?

First and foremost, the Animal Protection Association of the Republic of China (R.O.C.) would like to thank you, President Obama and Secretary Kerry, for considering the plea of the citizens of the R.O.C. The Association and the victims appreciate it.  However, when dealing with the incident of Mars Petcare’s consumer dispute, American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) and U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) were completely partial to Mars Inc., deliberately making things difficult for the Association and the victims. We strongly demand that AIT and FDA provide the following information of compensation for damage to human body caused by pet food:

1. In 2008, 79 people were sickened due to contactingSalmonella bacteriacontaminated pet food produced by Mars Pet care.

2. On May 7, 2012,12 children were poisoned by Salmonella bacteria contaminated pet food produced by Diamond.Among the victims, 2-year-old Amy was sickened due to contacting the contaminated dog food. Requested are the documents of Amy’s parents’ lawsuit against the pet food company in 2014.

However, after the phone calls made by the Association to theR.O.C. Centers forDisease Control andMinistry of Foreign Affairs on June 2, 2016, the Association was notified that the document provided by AIT in May contains only the information of the amount of the Salmonella bacteria contaminated pet food recalled in 2008, while the information of compensation for damage to human body caused by pet food was totally neglected. We could not help but wonderwhy? What made AIT and FDA so partial to those pet food companies which break the law? If it is possible that it is bribery fraud and corruption that made them so neglectful of the pets and the owners’ health and the right to life in Asia?

Dear Mr. President and Mr. Secretary, having the affiliated departments like these, which betraythe pets and the owners’ health and theright to lifeout oftheir own interest, are you not afraid that AIT and FDA would also betray you one day out of their own interest?

Now that the U.S.demands to export the pork containing clenobuterol hydrochloride (lean meat powder) to the R.O.C.What if the citizens of R.O.C. get to know that, even in relatively simple incidents like these, after 12 years the victims could not get the compensation they deserve. Even more, when R.O.C government and the Association requested the information of compensation for damage to human body caused by pet food, AIT and FDA made things difficult. We could not help but ask, how can any R.O.C citizens dare to buy the pork imported from the U.S.?

We plead for the effort of U.S. to deal with this issue with respect.

“This letter will be disclosed on the Association official website and other websites”

Sincerely,

Animal Protection Association ofthe Republic of China
